Making Hay

I'm not going to lie. I was a bit grumpy this week.

Maybe it was the 90F temperatures and peak humidity of July. Maybe is was the two different insurance audits and stack of legal documents on my desk. Or maybe it's just the fatigue of the busy season getting the best of me.

But I find a long drive is often a good way to clear the head. And as I wound my way through the rolling hills on New York in our rusty old orange scooby doo van, delivering a broken piece of specialized equipment to the machine shop for repairs, I felt the dark storm clouds lift.

I get excited about a lot of things and find myself drinking from the firehouse of life a little too often. Sucking up as much of the world as I can hold every day. The problem with drinking from a firehouse is, well, kind of obvious. It's a little too much volume.

With a step back and a half second of rest I remember that this small farm journey of nearly 20 years is exactly what I signed up for and is the adventure of a lifetime my 19 year old self was looking for. Insurance audits and all.

The blessings of this season are incredible. The weekly crop of rainbows after the storms. The fresh peaches and tree frogs. Eating your weight in an avalanche of berries until your tongue feels a little funny. And the endless long days and hillsides of green that will be distant memory in 4 months.

Too many blessings to count. Too many adventures to be had. So much life to live and so little time. Sometimes a full heart and a fully belly will just tire you out.

One of the best pieces of advice I've heard this year is, "If you don't know what you need, it's probably sleep".

So rest up my friends. Live well and sleep well. We have the gift of another summer at hand. Let's make hay while the sun shines.
